Rev. Brian Gruhn began serving as First Congregational Church of Kittery Point's most recent settled Pastor on January 19, 2016. Ordained into Ministry in the United Church of Christ, Brian received his Master's of Divinity degree from Andover Newton Theological School (2012) where he was recognized with several academic awards including the H. Otheman Smith Community Congregational Church Award for Preaching.
Prior to coming to Kittery Point, Pastor Brian served as Associate Pastor of Family Ministry at Second Church in Newton UCC (2012-2016), a Fellow at Hancock Church UCC in Lexington, MA (2009-2012), and before that as Youth Director at Shadow Rock UCC in Phoenix, AZ (2005-2009). At the beginning of his second decade in full time ministry, Brian has felt especially called to assisting others in exploring theology and belief in a way that influences how we live our daily lives. "Church is not meant to be a once a week thing," Brian has been known to say (extremely often), "it's something we practice at least once a week so that we can live out our faith ever day." For Brian, the difference between philosophy or ideology and walking the way of Jesus Christ in our time and place has to do with living and acting in ways that reflect our faith. To that end, Brian regularly updates his personal blog, "Discernment On..." with posts meant to enhance theological understanding and inspire better Christian living and practice.
