Open and Affirming Statement
Adopted May 15, 2011

The First Congregational Church of Kittery at Kittery Point, United Church of Christ, is an inclusive community united by our faith in God and our call to be disciples of Jesus Christ.  Guided by the Spirit, we welcome and celebrate the diversity that God has chosen to create and love.  We strive to honor the great commandments: to love God above all else and to love our neighbors as ourselves. We the congregation declare ourselves to be open and affirming of all humankind.  We acknowledge and affirm the equal value of people of all ages, races, nationalities, ethnicities, cultures, sexual orientations, gender identities and expressions, regardless of physical, mental, or emotional abilities, family structures, faith backgrounds, or socio-economic status.  We feel called to promote justice and peace for everyone and therefore, we invite all into the full life, ministry, joys, and responsibilities of participation in our church.  We humbly ask for guidance from God as we continue to discern the implications of this statement and live our lives accordingly.
